Coursework: Pre-production planning

1) Music video treatment 

Music Video Treatment: "Blinding Lights" by Neon Echo

1) Artist/Band and Song:

  • Song name: Blinding Lights
  • Artist name: Neon Echo 

2) Music Video Concept:
For this video, I want to capture the fast-paced energy of London at night. The video will combine performance with a simple story, while showcasing Nike trainers. The overall feel will be modern as well as retro, with a focus on movement and self-expression.

Location & Setting:
The video will be shot in in London:

  • South Bank and Waterloo: This area has great views of the London Eye, the river, and lots of lights reflecting off the water. The urban look and the lights will fit the mood for the video perfectly.
  • Indoors: This will be used for the start of the video. LED lights will be used to give the atmosphere that neon vibe. 
  • Traveling: Similar to what is being done in Blinding lights, the performer will be riding a vehicle, a bike or a car.

Performance Elements:
Neon Echo will be the main focus. The video starts with Neon Echo waking up all confused. He slowly makes his way out of the place he woke up in. This is were the performance starts. He will be travelling slowly making his way to London. This will be creating a sense of excitement and movement. The city itself will play a big role, with street scenes setting the atmosphere.

Lighting & Visual Effects:
Lighting will be a big part of the video’s style. The lights from the streets and the LED lights will give everything a futuristic look, with bold colours like blue, purple, and red. I’ll also use some slow-motion shots during some of the traveling scenes like in the Blinding Lights.

Costumes & Footwear Focus:
The outfits will be simple.—dark colours that will go well with the Nike trainers.

Narrative Tie-In:
There will be a loose story following Neon Echo as they move through different parts of the city, from indoors to streets. The video is more about energy and movement than a detailed plot. 

2) Mise-en-scene planning

CLAMPS: 

Costume: Black outfit, with a little bit of red. It's supposed be slick and smooth blending of mostly black and a bit of red. This will create a smooth look.

Lighting: Neon lighting from the streets at night. It's going to be outside and a bit of indoor scenes. Mostly using streetlights. Front lightning to create a silhouette. L

Actors: The only person that will be in my video will be my friend.

Make-up: None

Props: None

Setting: Central London, Waterloo

Lighting blog tasks

  1) here there has been a use of low-key lighting 2) The director has used lighting on our left, clearly shown by the shadow being on the right of her.  3) An effect of this lighting is that it puts focus on the actresses face, or more of her expression.
